up in the air

our sabbath year

going downhill

Over 5 years ago my parents went on a road trip to somewhere in the States.  They did some outlet shopping and my mom bought me a pair of Gortex pants.  It was an odd purchase as I didn’t ski nor snowboard, but my mom said they were too good of a deal.  I put them away, thinking I would never put that good deal to use.

And finally today, I wore those pants for the first time, and they were amazing.

We headed up to El Colarado, about an hour away from Santiago for my first snow boarding experience.  El Colarado is the place for beginners and therefore, not as impressive as its neighbouring resorts.  However, the hills are at over 3,000 meters so you get a pretty lovely view.

We are reaching the end of the the snow season for northern Chile and it was quite warm, so the snow left much to be desired.  That’s probably why I fell so much.  It must have been the snow.  Still, I really enjoyed my first time and Jon and I were much reminded through every aching muscle and bone, of the poor shape we are in.  Since we have started this journey, our perspectives and ideas have been changed.  Additionally, our physical states have had some changes as well.  I know you all have noticed it, yet have been too polite to comment.  All except for my dad.  Maybe it has something to do with the water abroad.

All this to say, that having your butt kicked is a very effective way of inspiring you to change something about your current lifestyle.  Hopefully, that inspiration will last us until we get home…
